GONTER, Helen M. Carroll, 90, formerly of Damian Rd, Wheeling, WV, died Wednesday, May 1, 2002, in Good Shepherd Nursing Home.
She was born Oct. 9, 1911, in Gill Hall, Pa, daughter of the late Peter G. and Agnes Curry Carroll. She was a 1929 graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy, Wheeling; a member of St. Michael Parish, Wheeling; a member of the Wheeling Hospital Auxiliary and served over thirty years as a volunteer for Wheeling Hospital.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hobart L. Gonter, Sr; a brother, William Carroll; two sisters, Mildred Dieckmann, and Alice Williamson; and a grandson, Brian Gonter. Surviving are a daughter, Sister Joanne Gonter, V.H.M. of Wheeling; two sons, Robert W. Gonter and his wife, Peggy, of Ophelia, VA, and Hobart L. Gonter, Jr. and his wife Birgitta, of Falls Church, VA; two sisters, Agnes Rine of Wheeling, and Eileen Monroe of Chandler, Ariz; three grandsons, Michael Gonter of Paris, France, Kevin Gonter of Madison, Wis, and Matthew Gonter of Annapolis, MD; and three great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be from 2 – 9 p.m. Friday at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger St., Wheeling. Funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 10:00a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2002, in the chapel at Mt de Chantal Visitation Academy. Interment will follow in Mt Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters’ Retirement Fund, Mt de Chantal, 410 Washington Av, Wheeling.
