Helen E. Smith, age 84, of Cannons Mill Road East Liverpool passed away on Friday, July 11, 2008 at the Salem Community Hospital after a sudden illness.

She was born in East Liverpool on January 19, 1924. The daughter of the late John and Clara Kommel Conkle, Mrs. Smith had moved back home after living many years in Florida and California. A homemaker, she was also a graduate of East Liverpool High School, class of 1941.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse A. Smith; they were married on March 23, 1974.

Survivors include a son, Charles G. Harpold and his wife, Linda, of East Liverpool, and two daughters, Carol Kenney, also of East Liverpool and Kay Bryant of Tennessee. A step son, Jesse A. Smith of Alliance, Oh., two step daughters, Katherine Fletcher of California and Joyce Ann Frank of Alliance, Oh. 9 grandchildren, Bruce Helman, Terry Harpold, Susan Clingerman, Shawn Harpold, Kimberly Bryant, Dusty Bryant, Frank Kenney, June Munoz, and Carol Lynn Zimmerman. 15 great grandchildren, Shealynn Helman, Bruce Helman, Katelynn Anthony, Nathan Anthony, Derek Munoz, Elizabeth Munoz, Dakota Kenney, Addison Kenney, T.J. Harpold, Lindsay Baker, Jacob Salsberry, Ashley Clingerman, Shawn Harpold, Blake Harpold and Katie Harpold.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Lisa Anthony, a step son Carl D. Smith and a brother Charles Conkle.

Services will be held at the Calcutta Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes on Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at 5:00 PM with Pastor John Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Columbiana County Memorial Park.

Family will be present to receive friends 2 hours prior to the service on Tuesday.
