GASSER, Harley R., 84, of Benwood, WV, died Monday, April 15, 2002, in Hudson Elm’s Nursing Home, Hudson, Ohio. He was a retired electrician from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel; an Army veteran of World War II; a member of St. John Catholic Church, Benwood; a member of Disabled American Veterans of Bellaire, Ohio; American Legion, Blake Brothers Post 46, Benwood; Wheeling Eagles Aerie 344. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Minnie Durr Gasser; three brothers, Roy, Raymond and Paul Gasser; a sister, Marie Joseph. Surviving are his wife, Virginia Marie Bates Gasser, a daughter, Gloria E. Gasser of Hudson; a nephew, Steve Joseph of Garden City, Marietta, Ohio. Friends received 2-4 and 7-9 p.m Wednesday at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff St., Wheeling, with Blake Brothers Post 46 holding at 7:45 p.m and vigil service at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m, Thursday at St. John Catholic church, Benwood, with the Rev. Terry Adams as celebrant. Interment in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association or to Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
