Gordon S. Harrison

Norfolk
Gordon Stephens Harrison went to ” the great fishing hole in the sky ” at age 70. After a two year courageous battle with illness, his daughter was at his bedside when he went to be with our Lord on February 7th, 2008.
He was born November 4th, 1937 in Norfolk’s “Atlantic City” and graduated from Maury High School in 1954.
He served his country as an Airman in the United States Air Force and took much pride in his service as well as his position as fast pitcher for the United States Air Force Baseball Team.
After his honorable discharge from the Air Force he worked as an HVAC sheet metal mechanic for several local prominent companies. He also continued his love for baseball by playing third baseman for many local leagues through out his adult life.
He was an avid fisherman. He loved nature and the outdoors. Literally, hundreds can share their fishing stories and they are wonderful stories. He was a great memory maker.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Alexander Harrison, his mother, Addie Elizabeth Edwards Yohe, his daughters, Catherine Elizabeth Harrison and Angela Rae Harrison, his son, Gordon Stephens Harrison, Jr., his sisters, Margaret Lee Suggs and Frances Virginia Edwards.
He is survived by his daughter, Bonnie Jo Owens and her husband Jack, his grandson and namesake, Gordon Thomas Burrell, the mother of his children, Eleanor “Ellie” Harrison, his brother and lifelong fishing partner, Arthur Lewis “Buddy” Harrison, his sister, Nancy Rae Angevine, his nieces, nephews and cousins.
To honor his wishes, he will be cremated and his immediate family will scatter his ashes at his favorite “fishing hole”. To further honor his wishes, there will be no funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Lake Taylor Transitional Care Hospital, Norfolk, Virginia, for the wonderful care he received.
His family expresses their sincere thanks to all departments of Lake Taylor Transitional Care Hospital, not only to the medical staff but to all the departments that became an extended family to him and his daughter.
He will be greatly missed by many.
