Obituary for:
Gertrude I. Newlen
Age: 84

Gertrude I. Newlen, 84 formerly of Pugh Road, Calcutta, died at the Calcutta Health Care Center on Saturday, August 30, 2008 following a lengthy illness. She was born in Power Point, OH on January 18, 1924, a daughter of the late Milton A. and Mary Conkling Rickerd.

Living her entire life in this area, she was a decorator at Hall China for 35 years and was a member of the Campground Community Church.

Her husband, Raymond L. Newlen, whom she married on October 5, 1943 died on December 3, 1993.

One son: Michael R. Newlen and his wife, Vickie of Calcutta, OH; one daughter: Linda Burson of Calcutta, OH; one sister: Lillie Hall of Calcutta, OH; two grandchildren: Pam Pease and her husband, Harry of Rogers, OH and Paul Burson and his wife, Brenda of Berlin Center, OH as well as four great grandchildren: Danielle Bair and her fiancée Andrew Deal of Columbus, OH, Casey Ward of Rogers, OH, Taylor Burson of Berlin Center, OH and Alex Burson of Berlin Center, OH survive her.

Besides her parents and husband, one brother: Alfred Rickerd; one sister: Evelyn Roberts and a granddaughter: Tyra R. Newlen preceded her in death.

Services will be held at the Calcutta Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes on Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at 11:00 AM with Jason Pancake of Lake Mount Church of Christ officiating.

Burial will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery. Following the services family & friends will gather at the East Liverpool Chapel & Hospitality Center at 145 West 5th Street, East Liverpool.

The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home in Calcutta on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 from 7-9 PM.

Dear Pam and family,

I am so sorry for your loss. I have such wonderful memories of Pap and Gee when I was a child. She is in a better place now and with Pap once again.

I am so sorry for your loss. I do remember all the times going down the hill on the bikes and hearing her yell to be careful!!!! I remember momma telling me about the double trip to the hospital for stitches. I remember the porch dropoff. I will keep you in memories. I am so sorry, and I wish Brenda and I could make the trip. Mike & Linda, I am so sorry to hear about your mom. I remember coming up to Ohio & seeing you all with daddy Bud We had so much fun. I remember your mom running after us so we wouldnt fall off of the porch or go down the hill too fast. That is what I remember about your mom & dad. Our prayers are with all of you all! Just remember the good times…..
