CPO Ret. Gerald Richard Hartman

Norfolk- Gerald Richard Hartman, 73, died August 14, 2001 in his residence.

A native of Nappanee Indiana. Mr. Hartman has been a resident of Norfolk for 49 years. He served in World War II and retired from the Navy as a Chief Gunnersmate. He was a member of Fleet Res., Wrecktangles Square Dance Club, and worked with scouting for 20 years. He loved the outdoors and camping.

Mr. Hartman is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Zelma L. Hartman; son, Roger D. Hartman and wife Linda of Chesapeake; daughter, Gail H. Clark and husband Wayne of New Kent Co. VA; son, David R. Hartman of Norfolk; son, Charles P. Hartman of Savannah, GA; son, Timothy M. Hartman and Karen Mosby of Norfolk; 2 sisters, Barbara Douglas and Lois Losee of Indiana; grandchildren, Laura C. Beale, Ryan D. Hartman and great-grandchild, Nathan O. Beal all of Virginia Beach.

He was preceeded in death by his parents, Hubert and Mamie Hartman.

A funeral service will be held Friday 1 pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home Virginia Beach Chapel with Rev. Vance Smith officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk. The family with receive family and friends Thursday 7-9 pm at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
