George W. Hocking, 82, of Wheeling, WV, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, in Bishop Joseph H. Hodges continuous Care Center, Wheeling, WV He was born October 6, 1919 in Wheeling, son of the late George Wilbur and Henrietta E. Wilson Hocking. He is a World War II U.S. Army Veteran, a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus, Carroll Council #504 of Wheeling and also a member of the St. Michael Holy Name Society. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Gail Bramble Hocking, who died November of 2001. He also is preceded in death by three sisters; Henrietta Garrison, Martha Jamison and Elizabeth Watkins. Surviving are two sons; G. Michael Hocking and wife, Joan, of Wheeling, WV, Robert R. Hocking and his wife, Michelle, of Columbus, OH and four daughters; Judy A. Higgs and her husband Harry, of Parkersburg, WV, Jane Powell and her husband, Ray, of Wheeling, Mary Beth Smith and her husband, Charles, of New Concord, Ohio and Sally Hocking of the Plains, Ohio. There are 12 grandchildren, eight great granchildren and several nephews and nieces. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m Wednesday at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger St., Wheeling, where rosary devotions will be held at 3:45 p.m. and vigil services will be held at 8:30 p.m. Funeral liturgy with mass will be con celebrated 10:00 a.m Thursday at St. Michael Catholic church, Wheeling with the Rev. James Sobus and Rev. Donald Higgs. Entombment will be at Mount Calvary Mausoleum. Memorial contributions may be made to Bishop H. Hodges Continuous Care Center, 1 Medical Park Drive, Wheleing, WV 26003.
