George W. Ashcraft, 83 of Powhatan Point, Ohio, died Tuesday March 12, 2002 in Estero, Florida.
He was born July 21, 1918 in Lumberport, West Virginia, son of the late Frances Jerome and Olive Ashcraft.
He retired in 1981 from North American Coal Company Mine #5, after 41 years of working in coal mines throughout West Virginia and Ohio.
In addition to his parents, his wife, Teresa Georgia Connor Ashcraft, a son, George Phillip Ashcraft, a daughter, Patricia Guillory, two brothers, four sisters, precedes him in death.
Surviving are his wife, Doris Hines Slack Ashcraft, four sons, Charles of Seattle, Washington; Tom of Louisville, Ohio; David of Buckhannon, West Virginia, and Roger of Waynesburg, Pa.; four daughters, Mrs. Lester Sue Smith of Houston, Texas; Mrs. William Mary King, Rosanna Hunter, and Shirley Sullivan all of Powhatan Point, Ohio; 22 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Friends will be received 2-4 and 6-8 PM Friday at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Home, 186 Main Street, Powhatan Point, Ohio, where services will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, with the Reverend George Passmore officiating. Interment in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, Ohio.
