Donna, Candy & Mark

My heartfelt deepest sympathy is with all of you tonight. As I opened the paper and read George’s Obituarie I had to look twice. I remember so many things about growing up in the Benwood/McMechen area and I will always remember George all through school as one of those quiet, layed back kind of people that knew how to deal with problems. Always smiling and always there to listen. We all had hard lives and most of us watched our parents live very hard lives, I think it made us so much stronger as we aged. I feel so blessed to have met such wonderful people like all of you. Please accept my deepest sympathy and know that you are all in my prayers.

Always, Charla Wickham Schultz

I’m five years late, and I suppose no one will ever see this. I’m sorry. I didn’t know these sites existed until my own tragedy last year, and now we loose Rudy. Now, I find Georgie.

Georgie was the first baby I ever held, and I couldn’t put him down. I was about ten, visiting my Aunt Mary, and he was my first encounter with a live babydoll. Donna was trusting, and let me hold him alot. I remember commenting to my Aunt Mary in my little girl naivety that I wished he could always stay like this. She spun around from the sink, whacked me gently on the butt, and said “don’t ever say that. He needs to grow up”. I reminisce alot, and have thought of that many times in my life, and although I didn’t understand then, it stays with me still.

My family eventually moved back to Benwood and now there was a Markie, and Candy who arrived that same month, and then we moved on again. Over the years, little Georgie grew, and when I visited, I rarely saw him.

Then, one evening in July 1990 at the Italian Festival in Wheeling, I was walking past the McClure Hotel and noticed this tall, handsome fella in a black shirt and with long blonde hair just casually leaning against the building, and when he looked at me, there was no mistaking that beautiful, Mucheck smile. He hugged me like he’d missed me for twenty years much like his Uncle Rudy, and I loved him all over again for that. I didn’t see Georgie often, but I would like to have seen him again. How time flies, and how life changes. Rest well Georgie, and if hugs are possible, please, hug my Richard for me.
