Gary Lee Stillwell

February 26, 2004 - February 4, 2004

02/26/2004 - 02/04/2004

STILLWELL, Gary Lee 53, of Wheeling, died Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at his home.
Gary was born in Wheeling, a son of the late Ray Stillwell Jr. and Betty Lee Younkins Stillwell.
He is a 1969 graduate of Wheeling High School. During his younger years, he worked at L.S. Good, in many aspects including the "talking" Christmas tree. He was also employed by Elby’s and Wheeling Dollar Bank while attending West Liberty State College. Gary is remembered most by all the years he worked at Ohio Valley Hospital/ Medical Center, where he touched the hearts of many.
Gary was essential in establishing the Ree Cook-Reiter Foundation Walk and Woman of the year events, and was immeasurably involved with the Capitol Music Hall Players. His passion has always been the safety and care of animals, actively participating in their rescue and placement.
He helped so many anonymously–that was Gary’s way. He will be in our lives forever.
He is survived by four brothers, Ronald and his wife Jan of Wheeling, Donald and his wife Sandy of Bridgeport, Roger and his wife Carrie of Wheeling and Mike and his wife Jennifer of Columbia, MD; and his two companions, Bailey and Hank.
There will be no visitation. Services and interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Ohio County Animal Shelter or the S.P.C.A.

Dear Stillwell Family,

I was so sorry to hear of your loss.

Gary was a great guy. I remember him most, of course, for the time you lived on Wood St. But I did run into him a few times in later years. He was a very sweet person and highly thought of by all that knew him. Sincerely, Carolyn

I knew Gary from the “old days” at

OVMC. We were the greatest of friends and the best disco dancers around! He was thoughtful, kind, witty, and warm. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him, and always have a special place in my heart.

So sorry for your loss guys. I loved Gary so much. He lived with me for a couple of years. Had a lot of fun. I don’t know what was going through his mind, but I tried to reach out to him as I know you did, and couldn’t reach him. Sadly we weren’t speaking before he died. I was upset because he didn’t attend his grandmother’s funeral. I choose to remember him lying in bed w/your mom while she read the funnys to him on Sundays. It’s one of my earlier memories. I’m sure he’s with her and your dad now. I hope he has finally found some peace and happiness. — Luv, Poge

To the family of Gary Stillwell,

I am so sory for the loss of such a wonderful person. Gary and I go back to the 80’s. He was a good friend who always made me look at things differently than I would have normally done. I am sure that he is in heaven with his buddys, Gatsby, and Zoe. I am so glad that Gary was a part of my life.

My prayers are with your family.

To the Stillwell Family,

I attended Wheeling High School with Gary and he was always the sweetest and nicest guy around. I moved away until 1999 when my husband passed away but my sister always told me about the many great things that Gary did for the hospital. My heart is with you and I know that Gary is an Angel in heaven like he was on earth.

Sincerely,

Sandra Turner Cardwell
