CONKEL, Gary George, Sr., 62, of Bridgeport, Ohio, died Tuesday, Jue 18, 2002, at home. He was born Feb. 10, 1940, in Bellaire, Ohio, son of the late George and Regina Bannan Conkel. He was a retired employee of United Dairy and also was formerly employed at Wonder Bakery. He was a member of St. Joseph Cathedral and the Teamsters Union. Surviving are his wife, Rosemary Vensel Conkel, who was his wife of 42 years and cared for him in his illness for 21 years. Also surviving are a son, Gary Conkel, Jr., and his wife, Marybeth; two daughters, Paula Sasseen and her husband, Robbie, and Michelle Koval and her husband, Ken, all of Wheeling; 10 grandchildren, Matt, Rachel and Mallory Conkel, Jeremy, Jordan, Vanessa and Ciara Saseen, and Kassidy Koval, all of Wheeling, Ken and Courtney Koval, both of Lenexa, Kan. Friends received 2-7 p.m. Thursday at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff St., Wheeling, where vigil services will be held 7 pm. Funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Cathedral, with the Rev. Larry Dorsch as celebrant. Interment in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to the visiting Nurses Asociation or to Valley Hospice, Inc.

Rosemary, I was so sorry to read about Gary’s passing. I remember him as such a strong man when you had your young family in Bellaire, I know he has struggled for some time now and I also know you have been by his side. Please give my condolences to all your children. I believe Gary is now having a big PARTY with TOM now. God Bless/Debbie Lucki
