Garry Rose

July 13, 1947 - February 6, 2015

07/13/1947 - 02/06/2015

ROSE, Garry, 67, of McMechen, W.V died Friday, February 6, 2015, at Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling, in the line of duty.
Garry was born July 13, 1947 in Wheeling, a son of the late Theodore and Rhuemma Marshall Rose.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Emma Rose; and four brothers, Elwood, James, Robert and Thomas Rose.
Garry was a retired furnace Operator for Herman Strauss for thirty years, a Catholic by faith whom attended St. James Catholic Church, a 37 year member of the McMechen Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as a Lieutenant and Safety Officer and Trustee, Junior Fire Department Advisor, member of Project Life Saver, Search & Rescue, a member of the first McMechen VFD squad to receive the Stork Award, he served three consecutive terms on the McMechen City Council and served on the Recreation Committee for McMechen, President of the McMechen Softball Association, coached McMechen softball for 20 years, member of the Marshall County Softball Association, member of the P.A.P Club, I.O.L.A and Moundsville Eagles, Special Olympics Volunteer, Volunteer for the Wheeling Soup Kitchen, Trustee for the Belmont Better Hunting/Fishing Club and an important advocate for the Miracle League of the Ohio Valley.
Garry was an amazing man, some say with a heart of gold. He was kind and generous and would give you the shirt off his back. Garry had a great sense of humor-always joking around. He loved his wife “PUNPKIN”, his daughters, family and yes, his Pepsi. Words can not describe how much he loved and adored his grandsons, Ethan, Broc, Logan, Heath and Zane, his
basketball team.
With them he was a kid at heart, teasing them and egging them on to do something they were not supposed to. Garry was always there for them, whether it meant babysitting, sporting events, picking his basketball team up from school or just playing with them. When Garry was not with his immediate family, he was with his extended family, the MVFD or the BBHFC, either at the Fire Station or at his camp.
He was well loved and will be greatly missed by every person who knew him, he is no doubt looking down upon his boys, watching over them and being their guardian angel.
Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Jeanette Kochalka Rose of McMechen; daughters, Denise Dave Wheeler of Wheeling and Lisa Chad Gast of Moundsville, WV; sister, Betty Charlie Stein of McMechen, W.V.; twin brother, Larry Sharon Rose of GA; five grandsons, Ethan Wheeler, Broc Gast, Logan Wheeler, Heath Gast and Zane Gast and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Friends will be received from noon until 8pm on Monday, February 9, 2015 at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Benwood-McMechen Chapel, 214 Marshall Street, McMechen, where he will be honored with a Fireman’s Service at 7pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, February 10, 2015, at 10am at St. James Catholic Church, McMechen, with the Rev. Bekeh Utietiang serving as celebrant.
Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Miracle League at 2079 Louisa Ave, Wheeling WV 20003 or to the McMechen Volunteer Fire Department at 811 Marshall Street, McMechen, WV 26040.
Finally, the family would like to express a very special thank you to the McMechen VFD and the city of McMechen for their support, kindness and prayers. Thank you for everything.

Dearest Lisa, Chad & boys – lifting you up in our prayers as you go through this difficult time. Remembering all those ballgames & your parents cheering us on. We are here on loan for a short time; although some, it seems, are called home way too soon. God has our lives mapped out before we are ever conceived. May He wrap you all in His loving arms. Give your mom a big hug from us.

Love and God Bless
