HICKS, Fred Norman Sr. 71 of Moundsville, WV, died Wednesday October 16, 2002 in Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus, OH.
Fred was born May 19, 1931 in Martins Ferry, OH, a son of the late Robert Sr. and Lenora Runyan Hicks. He was a retired railroad engineer for Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Co., Steubenville Plant, with 40 years of service, was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Moundsville, and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict receiving the Purple Heart. He was also a member of the Korean War Veterans Association and the Disabled American Veterans.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Jr., William and Earl Hicks; and a sister Alretta Plues.
Surviving are his loving wife of 50 years, Lucille Silver Hicks; two sons, Tom and Fred Hicks Jr., both of Moundsville; four daughters, Dorothy Raber and her husband Tom of Belmont, OH, Karen Szczesniac and her husband Mike of Garfield Heights, OH, Denise Hicks of Albuquerque, NM and Amy Clemons and her husband Rusty of New Martinsville, WV; a brother, Walter Hicks and his wife Alice of Utica, OH; five grandchildren, Stephanie McIntyre, Christa, Leslie, Matthew and Nicole Hicks; one great-grandchild, four step-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Sunday at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby-Vance Chapel, Moundsville, where a vigil service will be held on at 7:15 pm Sunday evening. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated on Monday, October 21, 2002 at 10 am at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Moundsville, with the Rev. Al Driesch T.O.R. as celebrant. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Moundsville, where full military honors will be provided by the Moundsville Honor Guard.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the St. Francis Xavier Church Renovation Fund.

sorry to hear about fred, i worked with him at whg.pgh. he was a very good & funny guy. i last saw him at Van Dynes restaurant one morning. he was the same old” Fred. , a very happy person.
