Fred Edgel, 75, of Wheeling, WV, died Tuesday, February 3, 2004 at home.
Born in Wheeling on August 5, 1928, Fred was the son of the late Burley and Margaret Williams Edgel.
He was a Catholic by faith and a retired employee of Warwood Armature Repair Co. with more than 45 years of service. Fred was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, where he was awarded the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the Bronze Star. He was also a member of the IBEW Union Local No. 141 of Wheeling.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Elizabeth Gallaway Edgel; three daughters, Mary Edgel Sanflippo and her husband Ronald, of Deptford, NJ, Rita Turner and her husband, Jeff, of Wheeling and Laura McConnell and her husband, Steve, of Shorewood, Ill.; a son, David W. Edgel and his wife, Tyra, of Beallsville, OH; three brothers, Thomas Edgel and his wife, Goldie of Wheeling, Burley Edgel and his wife Alice, of Lorraine, OH, and George Edgel of Wheeling; a sister, Anna Kociban of Benwood, WV; nine grandchildren, George Widener of West Deptford, NJ, Kateri Widener and Jackie Sanflippo of Lindenwold, NJ, Catelyn and Kendra Edgel of Beallsville, OH, Daniel and Matthew Turner of Wheeling and Shayne and Elizabeth McConnell of Shorewood, Ill; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger St., Elm Grove from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday.
Funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wheeling. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery with Military graveside services conducted by the Moundsville Honor Guard.
Vigil services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

I worked with Fred for many years at Warwood Armature. I am so sorry to hear about his death and I wish to express my condolences to his family.Rest in peace Fred!
