DUSCH, Frank A. “Bud”, 96, passed away at Good Shepherd Nursing Home on May 19, 2015.
He was born August 10, 1918 in Wheeling, W.Va., a son to the late Frank and Georgia Rentschler Dusch.
He was met at Heaven’s Gate by Mabel, his wife of 61 years, who preceded him in death. Bud served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, as a cryptographer in intelligence and helped map the invasion of Normandy. As anyone who had an opportunity to talk to him knew this was one of his proudest moments as well as his birthday cards he received from the president of the United States of America. He played semi-pro baseball for the Orlando Gulls, was an avid golfer and a member of the Wheeling Country Club. He was one of the founders of the Warwood Reds Baseball Team on November 30, 1946.
He loved sports, especially his Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals and enjoyed his big band music. He was an optician for Drs. N.K. Joseph and Bob Joseph at Professional Optical for 50 years and fitted most of the valley for glasses at some point.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, George, Charles, and Larry Dusch, and his sisters, Mary Ann Krauth and Patty Verbryke.
Bud will be most remembered for his love of his animals and how he fed the deer his favorite, Miss Daisy, and the birds and raccoons on the hill.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews, and wonderful neighbors and friends who looked after him the past few years.
His two nieces, Linda Young and Cindy Stanley would like to thank all who checked in on him, called to discuss the baseball games, his Kroger girls, Emily and Dana, and everyone who had the honor of listening to his many life filled stories. The family would also like to thank the compassionate Good Shepherd staff who filled his last days with love and heartfelt care.
There will be no visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 10 am at St. Michael Catholic Church with Msgr. Jeremiah McSweeney as celebrant. Interment with Military honors will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Wheeling Dog Park, c/o OV Community Foundation or to St. Michael Parish, 1225 National Road, Wheeling, W.Va. 26003.

Uncle Bud’s stories from WW II really shared a period of history from a different perspective. I loved his story of the “dancing girls” in France and other colourful tales. Rest well with all our beloved family who wait for us.
