Virginia Beach – Florence Kelley “Flo” Droll, 75, died peacefully Saturday, July 13, 2013. Born in Salisbury, MD to the late Anne and Durwood Kelley. Wife of the late Albert Clinton Droll. Flo graduated Wicomico Sr. High and attended Salisbury State University. Always productive, she worked for the Maryland State Legislature, pursued a career in the legal profession and, with our father, Al, started our family business, Droll’s Xpress, in 1999.

Flo loved her family and enjoyed all games that involved the kids and grandkids. Poker, cards, board games, bridge were some favorites. She sang and played the piano for many years and also enjoyed reading and genealogy. She loved good art work, the beach, lighthouses and travel. Her creativity and generosity were second to none.

Fondly known as Flo-B, Flo, Mum-Mum and Mumsie, she is survived by four children, Kelley Droll Hicks, Scottye Droll Zember, Clinton Jay Droll and his wife Wendy Droll and Gibbons Brittingham Droll; grandchildren, Will Minor, Elton Minor wife Mandy, Johnie Zember, Tyler Zember, Joseph Droll, Jackson Droll, Celia Hicks and Conley Hicks. She has a beautiful great-grandson, Logan Minor. She is also survived by a sister, JoAnne Bowers of Charlotte, married to William Bowers and their two children, Kelley Ann and Bill; a first cousin, Linda Morris; a nephew, Davis G. Droll, III; and brother-in law, Wayne Droll of Annapolis, MD. Her brother, Jay Kelley predeceased her over 20 years ago.

For a life very well lived, we invite you to share in a celebration of her life on Friday, July 19th from 5 –7 p.m. at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Rd, Virginia Beach. Memorial contributions can be made to the Union Mission of Norfolk, VA. Condolences may be offered to the family at altmeyer.com

Dear Droll Family: I know this is a very sad time for all of you. Also for all the Morris Family. Your Mom was one of the best person I have known. Regardless of any situation, she could always see something good about it. I know that no one knew what she has gone through these last years. I would call and she sounded upbeat. Then I would get a call from my sister, Dot, and get a different story as they would talk sometimes three times in one day. Dot realized she was in more pain than Flo would let you know. We feel very sorry for the loss to your family and we . We would like to keep in touch with all of you.

Dear Scottye, Kelly, Clint, Gibby, and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Your Mom, and Grandmother, was such an amazing person and she has touched so many lives, including mine! I have such fond memories of her during our college days and beyond, Scottye, and I am so thankful for the most blessed and cherished visit last year. If you had a problem, Mama Flo always had upbeat, wise an insightful advice, not to mention keeping you in stitches as she delivered the, sometimes, not so pretty truth. What a gift she was and I know you will all miss her so very much. Blessings of peace to you all as you celebrate her life. May you find comfort in knowing that she fought the great fight, she has won the battle, and is now reaping the rewards, as she rests in beautiful peace, in the loving arms of Our Heavenly Father. I’m sure your wonderful Dad is happy to see her and was there to welcome her home! My love and prayers are with you all!

I have many fond memories of talking to your mom on the phone. We were both from the same area in Maryland, so we enjoyed talking about things on the Shore! My heart aches for you in this terrible loss. I know there are dark days ahead, but know that the time will come when you will get great comfort from your memories.

I worked with Flo for many years in my law office. She was loved by all of us here and appreciated by the clients with whom she so closely worked. She became much more than an employee but a dear friend and confidant over the years and on whose advise I often relied. Her great legacy is her loving family. I will miss her .
