Messner, Fern Louise Gideon, 87, of Washington Lands, Moundsville, WV, died Tuesday, November 1, 2011 in Reynolds Memorial Hospital, Glen Dale, WV.
She was born September 4, 1924 in Fairpoint, OH, a daughter of the late George and Bessie Seevers Gideon.
Mrs. Messner was a homemaker, a member of the Washington Lands United Methodist Church, and the United Methodist Women.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Ernest Messner; a brother, Marvin Gideon; two sisters, Vera Riggs and Dorothy Phillips; a great-grandson, Chance Parsons.
Surviving are two sons, George M. Pamela Messner and William G. Nancy Messner, both of Moundsville; four daughters, Ethel Malson, Carol Gill special friend, Eddie, Martha Bob Brown and Susan Robert Flowers, all of Moundsville; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 4-8 pm Thursday at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby-Vance Chapel, 118 Grant Ave., Moundsville, where services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, November 4, 2011 with Rev. Michael Brown and Rev. Glen Baker officiating.
Interment in Halcyon Hills Memorial Gardens, Sherrard, WV.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Washington Lands United Methodist Church or the Marshall County Animal Shelter.
