BERGER, Evelyn P., 85 of Glen Dale, W.Va., died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, in Reynolds Memorial Hospital, Glen Dale, W.Va.
She was born Jan. 13, 1916, in Metz, W.Va., daughter of the late Scott and Mary Fraley Fluharty.
Evelyn was a homemaker and a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, Glen Dale; member and past president of VFW Post 437, Ladies Auxiliary, Moundsville; and a member of American Legion, Post 3, Ladies Auxiliary, Moundsville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Berger, in 1988; and a brother, Harry Fluharty.
Surviving are a daughter, Janice ”Kay” Wood of Jacksonville, Fla.; six grandchildren, John R. Wood and his wife, Jody, Sandy L. Chanclor, Kevin M. Wood and his wife, Tami, all of Jacksonville, Candy L. Paulk of Macclenny, Fla., Gregg A. Wood and his wife Barbara L., of Woodruff, S.C., Kristy A. Gibbons and her husband, Nick, of Victoria, Australia; two brothers, Wayne Fluharty and his wife, Pearl Jeanette, of Fairmont, W.Va., and Tom Fluharty and his wife, Wanda, of Atlanta, Ga; nine great-grandchildren; several nephews and nieces.
Friends received 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby-Vance Chapel, 118 Grant Ave., Moundsville, with vigil service at 7 p.m. Monday and VFW Ladies Auxiliary will conduct a service at 7:15 p.m. Monday.
Funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at St. Jude Catholic Church, Glen Dale, with the Rev. Charles B. Teufel as celebrant. Interment in Halcyon Hills Memorial Park. Sherrard, W.Va.
