Shutler, Eugene L. Sr., 73, of Wheeling, formerly of Moundsville, WV died Tuesday, October 1, 2002 in Good Shepherd Nursing Home.
He was born October 7, 1928 in Marshall County, a son of the late Fredrick and Clara Frohnapfel Shutler.
He was a retired employee at Olin Chemical, Moundsville and Youth Services, Wheeling, an Army veteran serving in the 82nd and the 101st Airborne Division. A member of St. Joseph Cathedral, Wheeling, St. Francis Catholic Church, Moundsville, lifetime member of Knights of Columbus Council #1907, Moundsville and a volunteer and fund raiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Three brothers, Edmund Shutler, Herbert Shutler, and Charles Shutler and his wife Kathleen, a brother-in-law, James Fahey and an infant daughter, Mary Shutler also preceded him in death.
Surviving is his wife of 50 years, Vivian M. Grob Shutler, three sons, Joseph J. Shutler and wife Becky of Renton, WA; Timothy J. Shutler and wife Lisa of Morseville, NC; Eugene L. Shutler Jr. and wife Carolin of Laurinburg, NC; five daughters, Jean L. McKenzie of Marietta, OH; Catherine C. Kane of Columbus, OH; Dawn L. Vannest and husband Brad of Wheeling, WV; Julie A. Shutler of Nova, OH; Susan G. Coffey and husband Jerry of Lugoff, SC; three brothers, Dale Shutler and wife Theresa of Wheeling, WV; Robert Shutler and wife Pearl of Mt. Olivet, Wheeling; Urban Shutler and wife Evelyn of St. Clairsville, OH; a sister, Edith Fahey of Mt. Olivet, Wheeling; two sisters-in-law, Rita Shutler of St. Joseph Settlement, WV, and Jean Shutler of Martins Ferry, OH; nineteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Friends received 2-8 p.m. Thursday, at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger St., Wheeling. Funeral liturgy with Mass 10a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Cathedral with the Rev. Larry Dorsch as celebrant. Vigil services Friday 7:30 p.m. Interment in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
