Chesapeake- Emma Reid Thrasher

The family wishes to announce that she passed away January 18, 2001. She was born in East Orange, New Jersey on November 8th, 1921, moving to Oxford, Pennsylvania at an early age where she graduated from high school. She attended Pennsylvania State University graduating in 1944 with a degree in Home Economics with a specialty in Early Childhood Development.

She is survived by and married Harold Morgan Thrasher on her graduation day. They celebrated their 56 wedding anniversary last year. She taught school for 7 years and is survived by and had three children, Henry T. Thrasher, William S. Thrasher and Lee-Hope Thrasher. She later became the 4-H Director for the Virginia Cooperative Extension Service in Chesapeake retiring in 1987. She received her Masters Degree in Adult Education from Virginia Polytechnical Institute in 1979 graduating with a 3.9 average while working full time at the age of 58. Emma received numerous awards and recognitions for her outstanding services, among them were: 1977 National Association of 4-H Extension Agents Distinguished Service Award in Accomplishments and the Paul Harris Fellow Award 2000 Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. She served on the Board of Directors of the Southeastern 4-H Educational Center in Wakefield, Virginia; the Chesapeake Hospital Auxiliary, the Women
