Elizabeth J. "Betty" Rager
Age: 87

Elizabeth J. "Betty" Rager, 87, formerly of Riverside Avenue, Wellsville, OH died at East Liverpool City Hospital on Wednesday, October 9, 2002 after a lengthy illness. She was born in East Liverpool, OH on April 11, 1915, a daughter of the late Albert and Edessa Phillips Lowther.

Mrs. Rager was a notary republic and a registrar for the Depart. of Motor Vehicles. She was a member of the VFW Auxillary #5647, Past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star #417, member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Friends of the Ascension Church, Past President of the Lady Elks #1040, active with Wellsville’s River Museum, Historical Society, Arts Club and the Alumni Association. Mrs. Rager was a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church in East Liverpool where she was a member of the Women’s Guild. She was also the last Justice of the Peace in Wellsville and was a graduate of Wellsville High School, Class of 1933.

Her first husband, John Jeffrey died in 1943 and her second husband, William A. Rager, whom she married July 22, 1947 died on July 7, 1994.

She is survived by one son: Peter Jeffrey of Fairfield, CT; two grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Besides her parents and husbands, she is preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Services will be held at the Church of the Ascension in Wellsville, OH on Friday, October 11, 2002 at 1:00 PM with Father Scott A. Woodstuff of St. Stephens Episcopal Church officiating.

Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.

The family will be present to receive friends at the Wellsville Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes on Thursday, October 10, 2002 from 6-8 PM where an Eastern Star service will be held at 7:00 PM.
