Edwin Michael "Mike" Edson, 63, of P.O. Box 1348, McDonough, GA. 30253, went home to be with the Lord from his home with family by his side on May 19, 2006, after a courageous battle with lung/metastatic cancer. Born in Baltimore, Maryland to Dorothy Geist Edson and the late Silas Edwin Edson, he served in the U.S. Air Force and retired Aug. 2005 after 38 years of service with Northwest Airlines, as a lead aircraft mechanic.

He is survived by his loving wife, Faith Diane Richards Edson, formerly of Norfolk, VA; one son, Jeffrey Edson; two daughters, Valerie Edson and husband George Carpenter, Rebecca Nickell and husband Robert, all of Taylor, MI; two step-sons, Michael Katona and wife Simone of McDonough, GA, and Robert Katona and wife Deanna of Jefferson City, MO; three sisters, Martha Edson, Margaret Edson, both of Baltimore, MD, and Mary Helmick and husband, Lewis of Liberty, N.C; eight grandchildren, Garrett Nickell, Gillian Carpenter, and Amber Nickell, all of Taylor, MI; Joshua and Kamren Katona of McDonough, GA, Jared, Jesse and Jenna Katona of Jefferson City, MO; his mother-in-law, Lottie Richards of Norfolk, VA, sister-in-law, Martha Richards Hollinger and husband Carl of Virginia Beach, VA; and brother-in-law Robert L. Richards and wife, Helen of Norfolk, VA. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and loving friends.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2006 at 11:00am at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Rd, Virginia Beach, VA. with Rev. Donald O’Dey, pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park, 631 N. Witchduck Rd, Va. Beach, VA. The family will receive friends at Altmeyer Funeral Home on Friday, May 26, 2006 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm, and at Fellowship Baptist Church, 419 Glenrock Rd, Norfolk, VA. immediately following the burial.

Mike is a member of Community Bible Church, Stockbridge, GA, where a memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Community Bible Church, Stockbridge, GA, Fellowship Baptist Church, Norfolk, VA, or the American Cancer Society. The family would like to take this opportunity to thank Hospice and his caregivers, many friends, and his church family for all their love and support during this difficult time. Faith,

I saw the notice in the local paper. You many not remember me, but I worked as the ofc.mgr @ Willoughby & Co. when you did. I have often thought about you. I am so sorry for your loss. I remember Mike coming into the ofc.many times. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. Keep strong as Mike will always be in your heart. God Bless you!

Faith,

I am so sorry for your loss. I wish I had a magic word to say to take your pain away, but I don’t. I was so blessed to have such a wonderful brother-in-law. May our Heavenly Father hold you in th hallow of His Hand, and may youfeel His Love and Strength at this time. Mike was a Wonderful man and will be sadly missed by his beloved family and most of all by his loving wife, Faith. I am keeping you in my prayers.
