Edward Leo Rayl, 84, of LaCroft Avenue, East Liverpool, Ohio died on Monday, April 15, 2002 at East Liverpool City Hospital.
He was born in East Liverpool, OH on September 16, 1917, the son of the late William L. and Margaret Effie Coleman Rayl.
Living his entire life in the area, Mr. Rayl worked as a recorder in the burn mill at the former Crucible Steel Mill in Midland, PA for 10 years. He served with the US Marine Corp during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He was a life member of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #66 and the American Legion, Post #737 in Glenmoor.
Mr. Rayl’s wife, Lois Ruth Starkey Rayl, whom he married October 12, 1940, died April 4, 1999.
He is survived by two sons, James Rayl and his wife Audrey of East Liverpool, OH and Willard Rayl and his wife Lisa of East Liverpool, OH; two daughters, Dorothy Hall and her husband, Ronald of Newton Falls, OH and Shiela McDole and her husband, Donald of East Liverpool; two sisters Katherine Seeley of Highlandtown, OH and Bessie Trudelle of Wildomare, CA; a granddaughter, Shannon Brown, whom he helped raise and a close friend, Carol Lawn of Summitvillle, OH, also whom he helped raise: 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by 5 brothers, Lawrence Rayl, Ralph Rayl, Raymond Rayl, William Rayl and Harold Rayl; one sister, Dorothy Fryman; one great-grandson, Nicholas Harris.
Services will be held at the Calcutta Chapel of the Martin-MacLean-Altmeyer Funeral Home on Thursday, April 18, 2002 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Michael Ross of Hope Christian Fellowship, officiating.
Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery where the Tri State Burial Group will accord full military honors.
The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home in Calcutta today, Wednesday, April 17, 2002 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
