Dorothy F. Simmons Smith
Age 91
Dorothy F. Simmons Smith, formerly of Plutus Avenue, Chester, West Virginia, died suddenly on Wednesday, November 14, 2001 at The Medical Center in Beaver, PA.
She was born in East Liverpool, on May 6, 1910 and was the daughter of the late James D. and Hannah Jordan Smith.
Living most of her life in the area, Mrs. Smith graduated in 1928 from East Liverpool High School. She attended St. Matthews Episcopal Church of Chester, was past president of American Legion Auxiliary, Post 121, a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Post 6450 and was a former 50 year member of Crystal Chapter of Eastern Stars.
Her first husband, Edwin L. Simmons, whom she married April 1, 1933, died November 1, 1953. Her second husband, Cyrus B. Smith, whom she married December 14, 1954, died August 5, 1981.
She is survived by two sons, Jerry Simmons and his wife Sara of Chester, WV and Glenn Simmons and his wife Nancy of Beaver, PA; two daughters, Nerita A. Husk of East Liverpool, OH and Frieda Greenwood and her husband, Larry of Louisville, KY; a granddaughter, Debbie Lynn Beck, whom she helped raise;
11 other grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Beck.
Services will be held at the East Liverpool Chapel of the Martin-MacLean-Altmeyer Funeral Homes, 145 West Fifth Street, East Liverpool, Ohio, on Saturday, November 17, 2001 at 11:00 AM with Rev. James Reed of the church, officiating.
Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery.
The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home in East Liverpool today, Friday, November 16, 2001 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.
The family wishes to extend a special Thank You to the nurses-aids at Trinity Oaks Care Center in Beaver, PA, for their kindness and care of Mrs. Smith, where she had been for 14 months.
