Doris S. Barnes
After a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease, Doris passed away at Windermere Nursing Home in Virginia Beach, VA. She was born in Henderson, North Carolina in 1922 in Henderson, North Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Charles Andrew and Minnie Short Strange and was also preceded in death by six brothers and sisters. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Karen Ward, her son Chuck Goodwyn, Jr., a sister Ernestine Harris, and grandchildren, Dr. Tara Pickett and Chuck Goodwyn, III and numerous
nieces and nephews. She was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was a former Civil Service Employee at the Naval Air Station in Norfolk, VA.
and a former member of Bayview Baptist Church in Norfolk, Virginia. The family would like to thank the nursing staff and Sentara Hospice for the care she received during her stay.
A funeral service will be held at Altmeyer Funeral Home – Southside Chapel 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach, VA on Friday, April 20, 2012 at 11:00am. A burial will conclude services at 2:00 in Forest Lawn Cemetery -Norfolk, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Dear Karen and Family,

We were so sorry to read that your Mother had passed away. I imagine her long battle with Alzheimer’s took a toll on her and your family. May she rest in peace. Our prayers to you and your family.

I can help you, I just need more info, like price range, where you work (if you don’t want a long commute), what kind of amtineies you want and a general area of VB you’d like to live in.
