Unfried, Donald W. “Pop”, 84, of Wheeling, WV, died Tuesday, February 5. 2008 in Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling.
He was born July 5, 1923 in Benwood, WV, the son of the late John and Genevive Flading Unfried. Mr. Unfried was a retired laborer with Laborers Local 1149 of Wheeling, with 50 years of service, and with Grubb Contracting, Wheeling. He was a member of the IOLA Club, Wheeling, the American Legion Post 38, Martins Ferry, OH, the VFW Post No. 825, Wheeling, and a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and Korea.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Leona Chambers and Una Longoski; two brothers, Jack Humphrey and George Unfried.
Surviving are his wife, Helen Joan Woodward Unfried of Beech Bottom, WV; a sister, Betty Bonaventura of Wheeling; several nieces and nephews.
Friends received from 2-4 & 6-8 pm Thursday at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff St., Wheeling, where services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, February 8, 2008 with Rev. Glen Baker, Jr. officiating.
Interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling.

Donald was a close friend and army buddy over in Europe during WWII..we enjoyed visiting over the phone on Sunday night for the past few years…and we will miss him…The Rices

My deepest and most heartfelt sympathies to Joann and the rest of “Pop’s” family. He always took time out to kid around with the little island rats and was a great neighbor. Good bless you Pop. May you be at peace.
