Dell J. Carpenter

Eudell Jones Carpenter Dell, 79, passed away on November 10, 2001 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital from complications of a brain aneurysm and massive stroke.

Born in Lexington, KY, she was the daughter of Grover Cleveland Jones and Maude Puckett Jones. A sister, Dorothy Louise Judy Swanson, predeceased her.

She is survived by her husband, Allan Lee Carpenter; two children – son F. Carl Curtis, husband of Becky Curtis, and daughter Lee Carpenter Achor, wife of Mick R. Achor; brother Grover N. Jones, husband of Drucilla Jones; five grandsons – Christopher Lee Achor age 16, Richard Allan Achor age 16, Joshua James Achor age 13, Trevor Grey Curtis age 14, and Cameron Hunter Curtis age 11.

Mrs. Carpenter was a volunteer in the Nursing Corp during World War II. She worked in the agriculture department of the University of Kentucky for many years. She and husband Allan moved the family to the Tidewater Area in 1961. There she became deeply involved in the church community and civil league. She enjoyed gardening, oil painting, playing bridge and making crafts. Of these, gardening was her favorite past time. She spent numerous hours preparing her garden to share its beauty with her friends. Many of her plants grow in the gardens in the area. She was a past president of the Bay Haven Garden Club.

She loved to speak often of her family, especially her grandsons, in whom she took great pride. She faithfully attended as many of their activities as she could. She was fondly called
