Dean ”Slatz” Manning
Age: 80
Dean ”Slatz” Manning of Salineville, OH, passed away Friday evening, June 29, 2001 at Calcutta Health Care Center where he had been a patient the past six months. He died from pneumonia and complications of a stroke he suffered in October. He was born in Salineville, OH, August 31, 1920 to his late parents, Roy and Grace Woodward Manning.
He graduated from Salineville High School in 1938. ”Slatz” was a World War II veteran, serving 3-1/2 years in the U.S. Army Air Corp. He retired in 1982 after 25 years with Western Southern Life Insurance Company. He was a member of SPEBSQSA Barbershoppers for 53 years.
He is survived by his fiance and companion, Margaret Maher and his ”adopted” daughters, Jean Kearns in Douglas, GA and Ann McConnell in Urichsville, OH and two ””adopted” grandchildren. He is also survived by an Aunt, Mildred Draher, in CA. and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty McClellan in 1975 and a brother, Ray Manning in 1989.
The family will be present to receive friends at the Calcutta Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes on Monday from 5-9 PM. Per his request, there will be a cremation.
