David L. Baker, 80, of 20 Olive Avenue, Moundsville, died Tuesday, May 15, 2001 in Reynolds Memorial Hospital, GlenDale, WV.

He was born November 18, 1920 in GlenDale, WV, son of the late John A. and Sarah Scott Baker.

He was a former employee of the B&O Railroad in Benwood and also in Cumberland, MD. He retired from the maintenance department of the Hawley Corporation, of Wheeling. He was a Protestant by faith; an Army veteran of World War II, where he was decorated for service in the European Theater. He was a member V.F.W. Post No. 437, Moundsville; the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Marshall County Chapter 710.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Harry, Wilfred and Clifford; two sisters, Mary McCombs and Alta Dyer.

Surviving are his wife, Eleanor Stiles Baker, a son, Douglas of Moundsville, two daughters, Mrs. WilliamSandra Hadsell of Wheeling and Mrs. TerryGloria Dunlap of Moundsville,a sister, Mrs. Flora Dyer of Moundsville, two grandchildren, James Baker of Moundsville and Jane Baker of Benwood, two great grandchildren, Bradley and Halie Baker, both of Benwood.

Friends will be recieved Thursday, May 17, 2001, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 118 Grant Avenue, Moundsville, WV, where services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. with Evangelist Brian Price officiating. Interment to follow in the Halcyon Hills Memorial Park Cemetery, Sherrard, WV.

The Military Order of the Purple Heart, Marshall County Chapter 710 will conduct services Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. and the Moundsville Honor Guard will conduct military graveside services.
