David Gordon McDonald

October 13, 1943 - June 2, 2015

10/13/1943 - 06/02/2015

David Gordon McDonald, age 71, resident of Norfolk, Virginia, died June 2, 2015. Dave served his country in Vietnam before returning to civilian life to work for the U.S. Navy in the early days of computer technology giving him a grand opportunity to learn and practice computer skills on ships from Guam to Sicily before settling in Norfolk in 1993.

In retirement Dave took great pleasure in gardening, raising some fine vegetables and fruits and developing his culinary skills as the variety of plants he cultivated increased, so that the term “Old McDonald Had a Farm” became a reality.

Dave was born in Dallas, Texas in 1943. He is survived by sisters Karen and Diane and brother Kenneth, as well as Ken’s children, and by still beloved ex-wife Margaret of San Diego, California. No longer sharing daily telephone chats and e-mails with Dave will be an inestimable loss to sister Diane and brother-in-law, Jim.

He will also be missed by Johanna, a good friend who often helped Dave with chores and gave assistance in some medical emergencies, and by his friends and good neighbors. The family would like to thank the Norfolk Police Department for their kind service and dedication.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at 1PM at Lighthouse Community Church, 9609 9th Bay St., Norfolk, Virginia. Condolences may be expressed to the family at altmeyer.com.
