HAMPTON – Claire Page Chesser, 84, died March 1, 2008.
She was born and educated in Western N. C., the daughter of Zen O. and Lettie Mae Page. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Michael Chesser.
She and Paul lived throughout the U.S., as well as Bermuda and Panama during his naval career, becoming long time residents of Newport News after his retirement. She worked many years as an executive secretary for the U.S. Coast Guard in Norfolk, Va., and Miami, Fla., and for the Army at Fort Eustis, Va.
Claire’s Christian beliefs were extremely important to her. She was a hot-line crisis counselor for many years and last worshiped at Denbigh Church of God.
Mrs. Chesser is survived by her daughter, Paula S. Huddy and husband, Brian of Norfolk; her son, Michael D. Chesser and wife, Sharon of Fountain Inn, S.C. In addition she had four grandchildren, Paul-Michael Salomonsky and wife, Toni of Richmond, Nathaniel Salomonsky of Hampton, Timothy Chesser and wife, Rachel of Charleston, S.C., Christin Allmendinger and husband, Tobi of Durnau, Germany. Further she had two great-grandchildren, Bonnie Marie Allmendinger and Patrick Michael Chesser.
The family plans a private graveside service on Tuesday afternoon, March 4.
