Anyone who met Chris just once can say they made a new friend. He was so full of life, with a great sense humor and yet so adorably humble. Kendra – my friend. I am so sorry for your loss. Please find some comfort in knowing your friends are thinking of you and are here if you need anything.

Chris will be missed by many. I rember him from his first ship, USS Chandler DDG 996. To say he lived life to the fullest is an understatement. Fair winds and following seas.

Dear Kendra,

I was shocked to hear of my good friends death. I’ve known Chris since we were in 5th grade at Wayne Elementary in Detroit. We’ve had so many great times! Although it’s been quite a few years since I’ve seen him – I think of him often. I’m saddened that I won’t be able to have a drink with him again and reminisce about the old days. Please keep in touch, I’d love to hear from you cell= 419-515-3211

I was shocked and heart-broken to read of Chris’ passing. We were the best of friend’s and neighbors in Guantanamo Bay, for three years. Although I was a civiliam working/living in a military community, Chris was one of the first to invite me in to the “Goat Locker” as a member. We shared many a drink Capt. Morgan’s of course in Cuba as well as outside Pappa’s Pub and the Thirsty Camel…

You will be missed my friend… Would sure like to see your famous or in-famous “chain” trick one more time…

God bless your family…

Kendra and the Pokas family,

Kendra, very sorry to hear of your loss. Brian Murphy, Harold Schultz, Chris and I spent countless hours together growing up. The things Chris did still put a smile on my face. We learned to golf @ Chandler Park he took Mulligans like an Irishman and I can still hear him say “whoo-hoo” after a good shot. Indeed he loved the water and Beer. We went on vacations together and he was part of my fondest memories growing up in Detroit. My 2 brothers and 2 sisters one whom he hit in the head with a rock will miss him as well. I think of my old friend often. Your family will be in my prayers. Although we have never met I hope these words will help you simle and know Chris will not be forgotten.

Regards,

Anita & Paul Gutierrez

Kendra,

I am not even sure that after all these years you will even remember me. We spent a few years in Puerto Rico together. I just wanted to take a moment to send my deepest condolences and let you know that there are people that you may not even remember who have you in their thoughts and prayers.

Kendra,

I am so sorry for your loss. Chris was a true friend, fellow Chief, and a great person. He had a terrific outgoing personality that will be remembered by all who were fortunate to have known him. Time passes so quickly as we go about our daily routines. It seems like only a couple of years ago when we all attended Chris’ retirement from the Navy. I find it hard to believe it has been 8 short years. It seems like I had a few drinks with Chris just last week, but it could have been months or even years. I was shocked to hear of Chris’s passing. You have my deepest heartfelt sympathy in this trying time. God Bless You and your family. If you need anything, remember that you have many friends who loved both you and Chris and are here for you when you need assistance.

You know when I think of him I canâÄôt help but remember his distinguishable loud laughter, his funny jokes, and his constant ribbing about how short I was. I will truly miss him. Kendra, Steve, and all the Pokas family,

We are heartbroken that we could not be there to celebrate Chris’s life with you all. Chris was more than just a good friend to us, he was also an impeccable mentor. We truly would not be where we are today in our lives had Chris not opened the doors and put his good name on the line. He will always be honored and remembered in our house. We look forward to the cocktails that we will once again share with him in Heaven.

With boundless love and respect,

Bob and Heather

My deepest condolences for you Kendra and others who loved Chris. I was able to meet this vibrant and very loved man during some very difficult times in the last few months as a nurse at Virginia Beach General. I could tell in just the short time that I met him how many lives he touched and the wonderful friends and family that he had.

So sorry to hear about Chris. I was told the news by my cousin Paul who went to school with him. I met Chris as the harbor pilot as he guided our ship into port while I was the Chief Master-at-Arms on the USS Gunston Hall from 1998 – 2000. We talked about Michigan all the time and he looked forward to his retirement. God Bless.

To the Pokus Family,

The passing of Chris has shocked and saddend us all. He was a fellow Quartermaster Chief and a brother in the small elite community of Navy Harbor Pilot’s. I had the pleasure to serve and get to know him during “Operation Restore Democracy” in the Haiti campaign. I’ll never forget his dynamic personality and infectious smile. He just had a way of always brightening up your day, and that’s the way I will always remember him. My prayers are with you during this difficult time. God Bless you all.

Best Regards,
