BERRY, Chester L., 87, of Moundsville, died Sunday, December 22, 2002 in Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Wheeling.
Chester was born June 2, 1915 in Moundsville, a son of the late Chester Doc and Anna Shimp Berry.
He was retired from the former Louis Marx Toy Factory, was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post No. 437, Moundsville, the American Legion Post No. 3 and the Moundsville Eagles. He was also a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Josephine Maxwell Berry, and a brother, Ralph Berry.
Surviving are his wife, Louise A. Rakoskie Berry of Moundsville; a sister, Elta Jenny Berry of Moundsville; three sisters-in-law, Lil Berry of California, Betty Lewis of Moundsville and Joann Groogan and her husband, Jack, of Tennessee and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby-Vance Chapel, 118 Grant Avenue, Moundsville, where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday evening. Funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 2002 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Moundsville, with the Rev. Terry Adams as celebrant. Interment in Riverview Cemetery, Moundsville, where full military honors will be provided by the Moundsville Post No. 437 Honor Guard.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Jefferson Avenue, Moundsville.
