Charles Terry Hawkins ”Hawk”, 53, of Wheeling, formerly of Morgantown, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, in Wheeling Hospital. He was born in Morgantown on May 1, 1947, son of the late James H. and Margaret Smith Hawkins-Schertzinger.
He was employed by West Virginia Rehabilitation Services; and a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
He was a 1965 graduate of Morgantown High School; and received his bachelor and master degrees from West Virginia University in 1971.
He coached the seventh and eighth grade basketball teams at St. Vincent Grade School from 1980 to 1994, and was currently the public address announcer for the Wheeling Central Catholic boy’s basketball team.
He is survived by his mother-in-law, Bertha Truax of Wheeling; and two nieces, Jamie Lynn Truax and Kassi Garan, both of Wheeling.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger St., Elm Grove, where services will be held 10 a.m. Friday with the Rev. James LaCrosse, S.M. officiating. A Committal service and internment will be held in Lawnwood Cemetery, Morgantown, WV on Friday at 1 p.m.
