Charles R. “Cris” Criswell, 95, of St. Clairsville, OH died Friday, January 16, 2015 in St. Clairsville. He was born February 8, 1919 in Martins Ferry, OH., a son of the late Ralph and Emma Rice Criswell.
Charles was a retired employee of the Ormet Corporation, a member of East Richland Evangelical Friends Church and a US Army Air Corp Veteran of WWII having served in the Pacific Theatre.
Charles was an avid fisherman and was known as the chief cook for the many dinners served at Friends Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Cyrus Criswell; three sisters, Laura Palmer, Ethel Resnik and Ila Barth.
Surviving are his loving wife of 70 years, Gladys E. Burgess Criswell of St. Clairsville; a daughter, Deanna Wallace Major of Bellaire, OH., a sister, Emma Augustine of Wheeling, WV., three grandsons, Matthew Wayne Major of Bellaire, Russell Lee Michelle Major of Wheeling and Wallace Edward Major of St. Clairsville; a great-granddaughter, Allison; a special nephew, Karl Resnik; a special niece, Gloria Brinkmeier and several other nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at Beck-Altmeyer Funeral Home & Crematory 204 West Main Street St. Clairsville, OH where services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 pm with Rev. Wayne Ickes and Pastor Jerry Wenger as co-officiants. Entombment follows in Holly Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Pleasant Grove, OH.
Full military honors will be conducted by the Belmont County Council of American Legions graveside.
Memorial contributions may be made to East Richland Friends Christian School in his memory.
