01/12/1948 - 08/28/2012

Pyle, Charles Chester, 64, of McMechen, WV, died Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at home.
He was born January 12, 1948, a son of the late James Amos and Mary Martha Cree Pyle, and raised on Boggs Run, Benwood, WV.

He was an active member of Boggs Run and McMechen volunteer fire departments; a lifetime member of the Marshall County FOP Lodge # 112; an honorary member of the Woman’s Club of McMechen because of his hard work on their projects.
A member of St. James Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society, he lived his life according to the Golden Rule, treating others like he wanted to be treated, and helping when he could. He was known for plowing snow on his 4-wheeler and working with the summer youth program to clean up the city.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim and George; his in-laws, Cora and Chalky Bowman.
Surviving are his wife, Jean Ann, at home; step-son, Brian Annette Black and two grandchildren, who brought him much joy and love, Samantha and Brody Black, all of Columbus, OH; a brother, John Theresa Pyle and sister-in-law, Dorothy Pyle, all of Wheeling; a sister, Carolyn Wade Richey and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Marvin and Jackie Bennett, all of McMechen; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ed and Kathryn Bowman of Moundsville; several nieces and nephews, including Elle Canestraro, who helped take care of Uncle Charlie.
The family thanks all of the wonderful staff of Amedysis Hospice Care, who took excellent care of him, especially his BFF’s, Rhonda, Nickie and Cheryl.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the McMechen Volunteer Fire Dept., because they were his special family.
Friends will be received from 2-8 pm Friday at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 214 Marshall St., McMechen, where the McMechen VFD will hold services at 7:00 pm.

Aunt Jeanie,

A beloved wise old man used to greet others with “you’re a good man and there are very few of us left.” Well we just lost one of the few great ones.

I never did become much of a fisherman. But that experience was one of the many that I will always treasure when thinking about the time spent with you and Uncle Charlie.

Carolyn, I am so sorry to hear about Charlie. I deeply regret not being able to be at the funeral. We were away from home and did not get word until after the service. I have many fond memories of Charlie and will always remember him as the gentle giant who I had the good fortune to know. Always remember the good times.

Dear Jean & Family,

I just wanted to express my sincere condolences on the passing of Charlie. Although I never had the chance to get to know him personally, I felt that I seen a little bit of his true self and spirit in the video. He was obviously a man of high character and loved his family and friends very much. I keep track of my Mother’s Pyle side of the family, and mark their coming and going. I have entered Charlie’s passing in my records. Please accept my apologies, as I may not be able to make it to his funeral.

My sincerest sympathies and condolences.

Regards,

Paul Crawford

Dear Jeannie,

I am so sorry for your loss. Charlie was an amazing man and I feel very blessed to have been able to call him my friend. Please know that if there is anything you need at all, just call me. I will be there for you anytime, day or night. I remember how fired up he could get my dad by telling him that if he’d been a few years younger, he would have been dad’s son in law. The more mad dad got, the more Charlie would laugh. He had a laugh and a smile that could light up the world. I love you and I am so sorry that you are hurting. There were only two men in this world that I thought were the greatest there ever was and now they are both in heaven. I wish they made more men like Charlie and my dad, our world sure needs them.

God Bless

Your Friend,

Sherry

He just snickered..This is one of my favorite memories of him…Charlie was such a good guy..He will be missed…Boggs Run would not have been the same without him…Or the rest of the Pyles….God bless you all….
