Obituary for:
Charlene Ellen Nutter
Age: 49

Charlene Ellen Jarvis Nutter went home to be with the Lord she loved so much on Saturday, July 5, 2008 at University Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, finally succumbing to her lifelong battle with diabetes.

Charlene was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia on March 14, 1959, the daughter of Everett and Mary Lou Jones Jarvis. She was a 1977 graduate of Federal Hocking High School in Guysville, Ohio. She attended Cedarville College and graduated from Hocking Technical College in Nelsonville, Ohio in 1984, with a degree in nursing. Charlene worked at various hospitals in Ohio and Texas until her health problems forced her to retire, receiving several awards and recognition for dedicated service.

In addition to her parents of Guysville, Ohio, Charlene is survived by her husband of 24 years, Pastor Jeff Nutter and their two daughters, Susie and Sarah. She is also survived by her two brothers: Charles Jarvis and his wife, Becky of Sugarcreek, Ohio and Calvin Jarvis and his wife, Sonia of Guysville, Ohio, her beloved nieces and nephews: Joshua, Jessica, Tim, Lydia, Jacob, Nikki, Ben, Bethany, Amanda, Scott, Matthew, Jennifer, Allison, Ashley and Megan and her dear friend and “sister” Amy Carter.

The greatest joy of Charlene’s life was serving her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She did this by leading Women’s Bible Studies, hosting Faith Community Church’s annual Women’s Retreat, helping her husband in his ministry and counseling young women at the Heartbeat of Columbiana County Pregnancy Center. She also enjoyed working with Special Olympics, especially coaching Sarah’s swim team.

Services will be held at the Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, 168 Morris Avenue, Athens, Ohio on Thursday, July 10, 2008 at 11:00 AM with her husband, Pastor Jeff Nutter and her brother, Pastor Charles Jarvis officiating.

Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, New Lexington, Ohio.

The family will be present to receive friends at the Calcutta Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes on Tuesday, June 8, 2008 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM and at the Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you give to the Heartbeat of Columbiana County, 130 West 5th Street, East Liverpool, Ohio 43920.

Dear Jeff,

I sit here looking at this blank screen not knowing what to say. There is not much to say. We count it a privilege to have known Charlene and everything i say could be said about you. She was so genuine, not the typical Christian. Always looking for ways to serve others and our Lord. The world is a richer place because she walked here. I can hear our Lord, “Well done my faithful servant.”

Dear Jeff,

My heart goes out to you with the loss of Charlene but I know that the Holy Spirit is comforting you now in the knowledge that she’s with our Lord. I still remember when she brought that huge bass up to church willing to help out the praise team any way she could! She was a dear soul and reflected Christ to all she met. We’re praying for you and your family.

Dear Jeff, Susie, and Sarah:

Charlene meant the world to me, for I lived with Everett and Mary Lou when Charlene was born. I am very blessed to have had her in my life. She will sadly be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, Always and Forever…

——-

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.”

“A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world. ”

“And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you”….John 16:20-22.

Dear Jeff;

I just wanted you to know what an impact Charlene had on me. We were in Growth Group together at MBC when Joe and I first started going to church there and we were both new at knowing what it meant to be a true follower of Christ. Charlene’s ability to love and serve with all of her difficulties with her health really affected me. She was such an example of a woman of faith and I will always be thankful for the short time I was able to learn from her. God Bless you and the girls.

I loved Charlene. She was so positive and loving. She inspired me to be the best mom I could be in every circumstance…just as she was. She was always smiling and thinking of others, even when she wasn’t feeling her best. She was truly a godly woman, and I was blessed to have her in my life.

Jeff, Susie and Sarah,

We were out of town and got the news late about Charlene going home to be with the Lord. I remember attending her Bible Studies at MBC. The Lord blessed her with an amazing gift of teaching! She would always say that whatever she was about to teach on she would personally experience first. I just loved her and was so blessed by her strong faith. I remember when we first met you all at Christway Academy in Duncanville. Wow – the Lord has brought you all on an incredible journey since then. Our prayers are with you now as you miss Charlene. We love you!
