Carroll Jeanne McGinnis-Carter, 73, of Virginia Beach passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2014.
Carroll was born in Bottom Creek, WV the daughter of the late William Pose and Maggie Mae Bennett. She enjoyed making crafts, playing bingo, dancing and bowling, collecting dolls and carousals. She loved walks on the beach collecting shells and collecting rocks wherever she went. Carroll also enjoyed trips to Vegas and especially loved watching her children and granddaughters playing sports. She was a representative of Fay Swafford and had also worked at Seaboard National Bank. She retired from the First Virginia Bank of Tidewater and after her retirement worked as a receptionist at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital Oncology.
She is predeceased by her first husband of 33 years James Harold McGinnis, Sr. and her second husband of 12 years Otis F. Carter. Her four brothers Kenneth, Bill, Richard and Paul Bennett and her sisters Edith McBride and Jewel Larkin also passed on before her.

Carroll is survived by her loving family including her daughter, Rhonda Cook and her husband David of Virginia Beach, son, James H. McGinnis Jr. and his girlfriend Trinity Scott of Virginia Beach, two sisters, Kay Pais of Bristol, TN and Betty Leedy of Surfside Beach, SC, three granddaughters, Sharnell Cook, Jennifer Nichole McGinnis-Grisoli and her husband Joshua and Krystle Mieir and her husband Michael, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by Clayton Housand whom she and her family recognize as her adopted son.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 1:00 PM in the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road Virginia Beach. The Reverend Larry Jennings will officiate. The family will receive friends Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Rosewood Memorial Park. Condolences may be offered to the family at altmeyer.com.

Carroll was a very special person to me. We worked together beginning in 1976 at FVB Davis Corner. I have many sweet memories of your mother and had tried to contact her by phone in the last year. I’m so sorry for your loss. May you find peace in God’s promises and your memories.
