Carl S. Coen, 73, of 610 Madison Avenue, GlenDale, WV, died Saturday, May 12, 2001 in UPMC Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA. He was born in New Martinsville, WV on June 15, 1927, son of the late Harry and Guetta Hartline Coen.
He was a retired chemist with the Wheeling office of the EPA. He was a member of the St. Jude Catholic Church, where he also served as eucharistic minister and was a member of the choir. He was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 282, Moundsville and also a member and past president of the Forum Club of Wheeling. He was a veteran of the United States Navy.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Earl and Harry Coen; two sisters, Wanda Jennings and Fayne White.
Surviving are his wife, Jean L. Schafer Coen; four sons, Billhis fiancee, Suzi Whitaker Coen of GlenDale, RobertDeborah Coen of Morgantown, PatrickSarah Coen of Lexington, KY and MichaelKelly Coen of Glen Allen, VA; a daughter, Mrs. BarryLeanne Brown of Portland, OR; his mother-in-law, Margaret Schafer, a sister-in-law, Henrietta Moczek; and eleven grandchildren.
Friends recieved, Tuesday, May 15, 2001, from 1-3 and 7-9 p.m at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 118 Grant Avenue, Moundsville, WV. Funeral Liurgy with Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Jude Catholic Church, with the Rev. William Stenger as celebrant. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling, WV. Vigil services will be held Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
