Carl O. Townson, 82 of Powhatan Point, Ohio, died Thursday September 11, 2008 at the Shadyside Care Center in Shadyside, Ohio.

He was born May 9, 1926 in Powhatan Point, Ohio, a son of William and Elizabeth Townson.

He was enlisted in the Navy on March 22, 1944 as an apprentice Seaman and he retired November 17, 1969 after 25 years of service with a faithful and honorable discharge as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. He served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam.

He was a Protestant by faith, and a member of the VFW Post 5565, American Legion Post 228 both of Powhatan Point, Ohio and a member of the Fleet Reserve Association.

In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by four sisters; Edith Bier, Neva Brown, Ruth Dartt, and Rosie Ko, and four brothers; Paul, Henry, Lyle, Kenneth Townson.

Surviving are two sisters; Nellie Horvath of Shadyside, Ohio and Mary Townson of Georgia and also several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes and Crematory 186 Main St. Powhatan Point, Ohio on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm where services will be held on Monday at 1pm with Pastor Lorna Knight officiating. Interment in the Powhatan Cemetery Powhatan Point, Ohio with Full Military Graveside Honors conducted by the VFW Post 5565 and American Legion Post 228.

Combined VFW and American Legion Services will be held on Sunday at 7 pm at the funeral home.
