Beverly Turock Raskin

Virginia Beach – Beverly Turock Raskin peacefully passed away on September 2. The first daughter of Alex and Ethel Turock, she was born on January 24, 1922. She was a life long resident of Norfolk. She and her beloved husband Paul also spent 25 years residing in Lake Worth, FL.

Growing up in Ghent, she graduated from Maury High School in 1939 and then attended the Norfolk division of William and Mary.

She met the love of her life, Paul, in 1937. After a five year courtship, they married on March 22, 1942. Together, they welcomed their large family over the next eleven years. Sharon, Susan, Daryl, Patricia, and Ronald made their lives complete.

Beverly was sadly predeceased by her husband, Paul; her son, Ronald; her son-in-law, Larry Dittelman; her brothers, Bernard and David Turock; and her sister, Florence Bresler.

She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Dittelman of Mt. Kisco, NY, Susan Borte and her husband Don Borte of Virginia Beach, Daryl Raskin and her husband Charlie Riegle of Norfolk, and Patricia Nelson of Norfolk; eleven grandchildren, Matthew Salzberg and his wife Diana of Riverdale, NY, Derrick Borte and his wife Sandra of Virginia Beach, Andrea Procopis and her husband Gregory of Poughkeepsie, NY, Robin Dittelman of Cortlandt, NY, Jason Borte and his wife Kirsten of Virginia Beach, Kenneth Dittelman and his wife Betsy of Chicago, IL, Nikki Coulter and her husband Mike of Virginia Beach, Emma Riegle and Zander Riegle both of Norfolk, and Emily Nelson and Gregory Nelson both of Silver Spring, MD. Beverly also leaves ten great-grandchildren, Elena and Benton Salzberg, Grady, Ava, Mia, Ella, and Hudson Borte, Jacob and Jordan Procopis, and Savannah Coulter; her sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Morton Burger of NY; along with many nieces and nephews.

Beverly lived her life with beauty and dignity. She smiled thoughout her pain and sadness. Even after her paralyzing stroke when she could not speak, she always had a smile and a kiss for those around her.

Our gratitude for the kind and loving care she received from the doctors, nurses, and care givers at Beth Sholom Village is unending.

A Graveside Service will be conducted on Sunday, September 6, at 11 a.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery with Cantor Elihu Flax and Cantor Gordon Piltch officiating. Following the service, the family will welcome friends at Beth Sholom Village, 6401 Auburn Drive in Virginia Beach until 3 p.m. for Shiva. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated. Altmeyer Funeral Home, Southside Chapel, is handling the arrangements. Condolences may be offered to the family at altmeyer.com.

Sharon and Susan,

I was sorry to learn of your Mothers passing before I was able to get to see her. Wow, the memories I have of her cooking, playin Mai Jong and just being wonderful even though it was years before we caught up with each other it was such a wonderful service and and being able to be there and be a part of her homecoming was very meaningful for me. I hope to stay in touch and see in soon. Love, Sharon and William

To The Raskin Family:

I am truly sorry for the loss of your dear love one. Words cannot express the pain and sorrow that you feel. However, please find comfort in God’s promise found in the Bible at Revelation chapter 21, verse 4. It reads: “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

You have my sincere condolence.
