Shively, Betty Jane Sprowls Gallaher, passed away on Nov. 20, 2003 at the age of 80. She was born in Wheeling, WV Aug. 13. 1923, the daughter of the late Clarence and Madeline Sprowls. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy and attended St. Mary of the Springs College, Gettysburg College, and West Liberty State College. For many years she was employed as a bookkeeper at Gast’s Bakery in Wheeling and later moved to Lima, Ohio where she was employed as an accountant with E.S. Evans and Co. She was formerly a member of the First English Lutheran Church in Wheeling. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry Shively; and her brother, Herbert Sprowls. She is survived by her son, James R. Gallaher, Jr. and his wife, Tami, of Wheeling; daughters Barbara Jones of Moundsville and Deborah Schierholt and her husband, Steve, of Columbus, Ohio; sisters, Aileen Berry of Wheeling and Suzanne Carroll and her husband, Robert, of Pittsburgh, Pa; sister- in-law, Nancy Sprowls of Medina, Oh; 11 grandchildren: Beth, Katy and Jamey Gallaher, Lisa Gilrane and her husband, Scott, Sam, Koury and his wife Jaime, and Kyle Jones, Jason, Jennifer and Aaron Hastings and Mark Schierholt; 3 great-grandchildren. At Betty’s request, there will be no visitation and graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family.
