Betty Jane McDowell

Age 84

Betty Jane McDowel, 84, of Seventeenth Street, Wellsville, Ohio died Wednesday, January 30, 2002 at East Liverpool City Hospital following a brief illness.

She was born in Wellsville, Ohio on December 23, 1917, the daughter of the late Sam Bowers and Mary Quayle Bowers Huff.

Mrs. McDowell, living her entire life in Wellsville was a homemaker. She graduated form Wellsville High School, belonged to the Eastern Stars, Lodge

# 417 in Wellsville, Lady Elks, Lodge #1040 of Wellsville and a member of the Arts Club of Wellsville, Ohio. She attended the Wellsville First United Methodist Church.

Her husband, Francis L. ”Fritz” McDowell, whom she married September 1, 1939, died July 31, 1997.

She is survived by a son, Rodney McDowell and his wife, Linda of Wellsville; a daughter, Susan Garee and her husband, Jim of East Liverpool; two sisters, Irene Ferguson of Salem, Ohio and Beulah Betteridge of East Liverpool, Ohio; 4 grandchildren, Justin Garee and his wife Dawn of Akron, Ohio, Brett Garee of Columbus, Ohio, Sheena McDowell of Wellsville, Ohio and Tera McDowell of Wellsville, Ohio.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death b y a brother, Bud Bowers and a sister, Mary Lou Digman.

Services will be held at the Wellsville Chapel of the Martin-MacLean-Altmeyer Funeral Homes on Saturday, February 2, 2002 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Jerry Penrod of the church, officiating.

Burial will follow in Columbiana County Memorial Park.

The family will be present at the funeral home in Wellsille to receive friends today, Friday February 1, 2002 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM and on Saturday, from 10:00 AM up until the time of the service.
