Beanie Howard Brown

Virginia Beach – Beanie Howard Brown, a spiritually and physically beautiful lady departed this life June 7, 2008. Myrtle Beshears Howard Brown was born in Norfolk, June 22, 1920 to the late William C. and Mary M. Beshears. “Beanie”, as she was affectionately nicknamed by her father in her early years, is also predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Charles M. “Whitie” Howard, Sr.; her second husband of three years, Wilbur Brown; her brothers, Billy, Jack and Bobby; her sisters, Thelma, Ruth, Margie and Nina; and her granddaughter, Denise Bogucki.

Beanie was active for many years in the Princess Anne Women’s Club and the Star of the Sea Catholic Church where she served as the Ladies Circle’s First President. She managed the Bel-Aire Motel and Carol Anne Terrace Apartments.

Mrs. Brown is survived by her children, Charles M. Howard, Jr. of Penn Laird, VA, Joanne H. Battaglia and her husband Robert of Virginia Beach, and Gayle H. Zolbert of Bluffton, SC; and the children of her husband, Wilbur, Beverly Jones and her husband Linny, Gloria Bell and her husband Jack, Edward Brown, Brenda Portlock and her husband David and Kathy Heatwole and her husband Doug; grandchildren, Daniel, Patrick, Kristy, Greg, Julie, Doug and Alex; 10 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Bayside Health Care Center, Teena Treherne, Linda Hinnant, Carrie Almond and volunteer, Kathy Archambeault, for their dedication and loving care.

Beanie’s beautiful smile and twinkling blue eyes and loving hand squeeze will be missed by all.

A Memorial Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach. Pastor Larry Jennings will officiate.

I shall always remember the gentle grasp of Beanie’s hand and her doll at her side. God bless you Joanne….you are blessed to have had such a wonderful Mom.

I volunteered to see her at Bayside and I remember and felt in my heart her love and kindness. My heart goes out to her family and simply to say to Beanie, “See you heaven” and my god hold you.
