Barb’s devotion to music is one those joys she and her Lord shared with us.

Her wonderful enthusiasm, faithful and diverse musical expressions uplifted the spirit of the community and its school.

Joy and sorrow combine in her passing onward in our Savior who leads in his song of eternal glory.

“O Sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvellous things. His right hand and his holy arm have gotten him victory.”-Psalms 98:1

“Honor and majesty are before him; strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.”-Psalms 96:6

With our sincerest sympathies, may his abundant comfort be upon Jim and her family.

Dear Jim and Family —

What a lovely blessing your precious Barb has given to so very many people; sharing the gift of music which God first gave to her.

And now, she sings with the angels!

I’m so glad and grateful that Barb was my Junior Choir Director at First Pres.; a blest way to get started in the music of the Church. I have MANY wonderful memories of Barb some of them delightfully funny; but, I will be forever grateful for the lovely visit that we had about a month ago, at your home, Jim. I thank God for not allowing me to miss that visit.

Of course, I’ve come to realize that some of God’s special blessings are bittersweet in nature; the visits at Liza’s Place will remain in my heart.

May God’s peace and blessings be yours during this most tender season; and, may He give you many lovely memories, so that you may always have roses in December.

Ever hoping . . .

Always in Jesus,

Maryann

I can only imagine the celebration there must be in Heaven – to have her voice, her spirit, her talents, and her gifts added to the throngs. How thrilled she must be to see Him face to face. I pray for comfort in your loss in the days to come. And know that she was, and you are, so treasured here – by me.

Mrs. Jefferies was a big influence on my life in the Junior Choir at First Presbyterian Church. She was always there to encourage and she never gave up on us even when we wanted to quit. She was the only person I knew who had a two wheeled bicycle, which we used to ride at her house at the church picnics. I remember her smelling of Noxzema at Vacation Bible School and to this day think of her when I smell it. My deepest condolences to her loving family.

Mrs. Jeffries, in the span of years that we have known you, there must be thousands of students and adults who had their ears – and their hearts – turned to the gift of music. All because of you. Surely, that is something which will last a lifetime. But you were even more than that. You were equally gifted as a person. You never left any of us without a smile, without some type of encouragement, or positive acknowledgement. You gave to your family, your students, your church, and your community. You freely gave huge personal efforts toward so many – including Susan and I. Playing for our wedding day and getting Sarah’s voice ready will always remain a high moment in time for us – and a great story to muse over in our years to come. You did all of this with no announcement and even less fanfare. You also expected nothing in return. I admire most your ability to be humble in the midst of serving others. So, while your musical gifts were plentiful, they were made more awesome and more vibrant because of the type of personality God gave to you.

Ours is but a small tribute from afar. But to say thank you Mrs. Jeffries is not really enough. I’m confident, I’d be less of a person without your influence, guidance, and direction.

As I play communion meditation this Sunday, it will be in your honor. It will be simple, humble, and respectful. Only a few will know why – just as you would prefer it. My hope is that you’ll like it. I also pray that it brings a small sense of peace to your family, because they are – as you have often said – your greatest gift.

Susan and I wish you rest and peace. God’s hands are open for you.

My thoughts and prayers go to the family. I took voice lessons from Mrs. Jeffries during high school. She taught me more than just about music but to be more confident. Her life lessons are still instilled in me today and I will forever be grateful.

TO JIM AND ALL THE JEFFRIES FAMILY:

When we moved to St Clairsville, it was a blessing to make new friends with Barb and Jim. It was easy to see why they were so loved and respected by the community. Barb and I planted flowers each year among other projects. She was my new “best friend.” My most treasured memory was when I walked into the house to see her with my grandchildren on the piano bench as she sang songs from Sound of Music. And they too remember that special time. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the Jeffries.

To the Jeffries family…

I was so sad to hear about Barbara’s passing. Her music certainly made many people very happy in the Ohio Valley, including my late Father who so enjoyed being a part of “Barb’s Boys.” There definitely will be a huge choir in heaven that many departed friends and family will enjoy participating in and listening to under her direction. Rest in peace Barbara.

When Joe called to inform me of Barb’s passing it brought a flood of mixed emotions and wonderful memories. My next thought was of a song Barb’s Boys sang in which Barb sang a part with us. It seems fitting to share the words that she sang, “I’m gonna ride in the morning to see my Lord” She did so on May 30. She sang that song like the angels, and now, Praise God, she is singing it with them! I loved her so.
