I got to know Irene the past two years, I work at a building in Downtown Wheeling and on her way to St Josephs Cathedral, for noon Mass. I would usually go out my office door and just say hello and ask her how her day was going. She would always give me a huge hug and say, “Jerry we need to get the heartbeat back to Wheeling” and I knew everyday at that Mass she would pray for this city to be a better place. I always felt better after seeing her walk by the office. She will be sadly missed by myself and this community and i will never forget the conversations we had and those beautiful blue glasses she wore. She is now an angel in heaven and will look over this city for years to come. God bless you Irene!!!!

I only knew Irene for the past few years but she was always so full of energy and so involved. I enjoyed seeing how much she cared for the community. She always worked the election polls and she was a wonderful poll worker. So interested in politics. I will miss her coming in to the office to say “Hi”

Irene has been family to us as long as i’ve lived. She has a place in all our hearts so Big, words could never describe. She and our son Shane, were closer than a grandmother and grandson. He loved her more than words can say. She was there for him whenever and for whatever he needed. If he had something to say, he would call her first. He enjoyed every second with her as we all did. She will be missed more than you know by us.

Irene was the best! We have lost the most wondeful person. Life will never be the same now without her here. She was so uplifting. So strong and kind. I thought she would be here forever.

There was no chance for a good bye to her from us. I think that’s what hurts the most. We just wanted one more day with her,one more minute, one more second.

She is now an Angel in Heaven, because she was definitly and Angel on Earth! We Love you Irene!!

Time passes so quickly, especially when distances keep family apart. I will never forget cousin, Irene..and the day trip taken with her and Linda to the Girl Scout Camp during one of my summer vacations at Grandma Nessie’s years ago. Irene was always full of stories and smiles. She was one of those people, who contributed much in her life, who gave of herself, who had

an inner kindness that always shined through. She commanded respect and admiration. I wish I’d had the opportunity to know her better…to see her more often.

I remember a story she relayed to me about accompanying my Grandma to a fair…and how, she couldn’t get over grandma’s gumption for going up on a helicopter ride. She revealed a side of my Grandma Nessie that day, a side I wouldn’t have ever known. Sadly, I realize there are probably many other wonderful family stories that are now forever lost. You always think you’ll get another chance to talk and laugh. I know my memories of Irene will always be special. It’s so hard to believe that she was 81 yrs. old.

She’ll be in heaven with good company.

Love to all the family and friends that loved Irene,

To the Family of Irene:

We were sorry to learn of Irene’s passing away.

We knew her from the St. Joseph Cathedral Parish.

What a compassionate and outgoing lady. She always had a smile on her face and a hug waiting for us when greeting her.

Please know that you and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers as well as Irene.

Eternal rest grant to her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.
