Athena Georgia Voliva

February 23, 1959 - January 26, 2015

02/23/1959 - 01/26/2015

Athena Georgia Voliva, 55, passed away January 26, 2015 with her beloved husband by her side. She was born in Virginia Beach, Virginia on February 23, 1959 to Chris Theodosiou and the late Doris J. Roberts Theodosiou. Athena was a beautiful, loving, talented artist whose many creations illuminated the family home. She was passionate about her horses; caring for and riding them on the farm she shared with her husband brought her tremendous joy and serenity. She stood by her father’s side for over 30 years, managing the family’s business at the Sea Gull Motel on the Virginia Beach oceanfront. But the most precious and rewarding in her life was her beloved family, who she cherished above all else in this world.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 35 years, Mike Voliva; her daughter, Christina J. Voliva; son, Michael Voliva II; father, Chris Theodosiou; siblings, Phillip Theodosiou and his wife Sherry, Tessie Heath and her husband Jerry, Jack Theodosiou; in-laws, Steve and Charlotte Voliva, Steve Voliva Jr., Valerie Voliva, Cindy Martin and her husband John, Kim Hathaway and her husband Paul, Scott Voliva, and Tracy Vandeberg and her husband Bob. She also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins, and many extended family members and dear friends who will forever hold her in their hearts.

A service to celebrate her life will be held Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at 11:00 am at Freedom Fellowship in Virginia Beach, with interment following at Princess Anne Memorial Park. The family will be receiving friends Monday evening from 6 – 8:00 pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Rd. Virginia Beach. Please visit www.Altmeyer.com to leave a note to the family.

I have been lucky enough to know the Voliva’s and Theodosiou’s since Christina and I met in high school. This family is one of strength and character, led in part by Athena, who even at a young age represented the family as a natural matriarch. She worked hard to provide a wonderful life for her family & passed along these ethics to her children. Not just a hard worker, she was a woman with a great sense of humor and Athena sincerely filled the world around her with beauty and love.

I am a better person for having known Athena Voliva and her family.
