I worked with Art for 14 years during my time as a Belmont County Deputy Sheriff! I learned from Art, the “Bull” as we called him! I had only a few times to talk with Art since I left the BCSO 23 years ago and took a position with the Attorney General, but I remember Art well. It was a good time in my life to know and worked with Art. I shall miss him very much!

MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS GO OUT TO THE SHIMBLE FAMILY. I WAS BLESSED TO HAVE WORKED WITH ART AT ONE TIME BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY GOT TO KNOW AND GREATLY RESPECT THE MAN FOR 28 YEARS. HE BECAME A FATHER FIGURE FOR ME AWAY FROM HOME AND PROVIDED ME THE PROFESSIONALISM, CARING FOR THE PEOPLE WHILE DOING MY JOB AND EVERY DAY LIFE. THIS MAN WAS GIVEN THE MOST RESPECT FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE THAT I HAVE EVER WITNESSED AND DESERVINGLY SO. THE GREATEST THING I HAVE LEARNED FROM ART WASN’T HIS TOUGHNESS,SERVING HIS COUNTY OR COUNTRY BUT HIS FAMILY VALUES. THIS MAN LOVED HIS WIFE,CHILDREN,GRAND CHILDREN,DAUGHTERS AND SON I-LAWS AND HIS PARENTS. I NOT ONLY LOVED HIM FOR THIS BUT ALSO “LOVED THE MAN”. I WILL NEVER FORGET YOU AND CAN’T SAY GOODBYE. UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN IN HEAVEN!

We are saddened to here of the passing of Art. He was a very respected, caring, man not only at home, but in the entire community. He was always there when needed, and never lost the reason for his success, which was the love and support of his family.

Rick and Stephanie,,,

I graduating with Rick,,and Sharon Graduating with Stephanie, realize what a loss this is to your family, and we want you to know we are here for you guys whenever you need to just talk. It is almost unbeleivable how fast time flies by us, and our lives get controlled by things we think are important. The older we get, the more we realize that really the important thing in life is family.

we are praying for your entire families, and we want you to know that you truly have the character and respect from us that your father has of the entire Ohio Valley

Without a doubt Art Shimble was the BEST.

I first met Art when I was a brand new deputy in 1979. My first shift I was working with him and I took my hat off in the car, and Art said PUT THAT HAT BACK ON. I did, nervously, and he looked at me an laughed and told me I was easy. I knew then I was going to be okay.

He taught me a lot back then which led me to my current career as a prosecutor in West Virginia. Seldom does a day go by that I don’t think of him. He was what a “peace officer” should be. I just try to live up to both Art’s and my father’s ideals as a prosecutor.

I wish all of his family my condolences at such a loss.
