Arnold E. Black, age 83, of Winston Drive East Liverpool passed away at his home on Friday, March 22, 2008, after a lengthy illness.

The son of the late Edmond and Freda Warren Black, he was born in Eldon, Iowa on April 7, 1924, growing up on the family farm and graduating from the Eldon High School, Class of 1947.

Living most of his life in this area, Mr. Black retired from TIMET in Toronto after working 25 years as a tractor driver. Prior to that, he had worked at Remcru in Midland, Pa.

Mr. Black was a Veteran serving with the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict as a Demolition Specialist.

Affiliated with the Chester and East Liverpool Churches of the Nazarene, he was active in the Chester Church serving as Chairman of the Trustees for 25 years and holding several other offices including Head Usher. Mr. Black designed and built the parsonage of the church.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Zella A. Robinson Black whom he married December 7, 1951. Two daughters Judy Householder and her husband, Gregg, and Debbie Wilson and her husband Randy, and a son, Eddie Black, all of East Liverpool. Grandchildren, John Robinson, Melissa and Brandon Ward and Daniel Wilson and Great Grandchildren, Alexandria, Preston and Izebella Ward and Kendall, Jacob, and Hayden Robinson also survive.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Black was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jennifer Roach.

He was a very calm and easy going man, admired and respected by all who ever knew him, family and church were his life. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and loved the family picnics. He had a special gift for woodworking and carpentry leaving his family many keepsakes that will be cherished forever. He was the Best !!!

Services will be held at the Calcutta Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes on Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at 11:00 AM with retired Pastors, Philip Bowles and Dayton Lockard officiated. Burial will follow in Columbiana Co. Memorial Park where the Tri-State Burial will accord full military honors. Friends and family will gather at the Hospitality Center of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Home following services on Tuesday.

Visitation will be at the Calcutta Chapel on Monday, March 24, 2008, from 2 to 8 PM.
