Allen Edgar Twine

VIRGINIA BEACH- Allen Edgar Twine, born August 17, 1931, passed away after a very successful battle with lung cancer. Allen was a humble man who never spoke of his accomplishments, but those who knew and loved him were aware of what a remarkable life he had led. He lived for eight wonderful years after his “advanced” diagnosis due to the dedications of his doctors Michael Lee, Seth Greenberg, and Bruce Johnson. Thank you for allowing him to watch his family grow!

He leaves behind his best girl of over 47 years, Nancy and his children Ed, Rick, Mike, Lisa and Scott. His brothers Eugene and Lewis are his remaining siblings out of a family of five that his parents Mamie and Mode loved and raised during difficult times.

Al had great affection for his daughters-in-law Hope and Stacey and his son-in-law Steve. He was an AMAZING Papa to his grandkids Beth, Ali, Elliot, Katie, Alexis, Matt, David, Devin, Sydney and Ryan. He also loved his grandkids Bobby, Melissa, Amy and Britanni in Pennsylvania. He will be missed by everyone that was ever lucky enough to have been touched by his love but will be keep fondly in our hearts forever.

He served in the US Army Medical Service for twenty years with tours in Japan, Germany and Korea. After his army retirement, he gave seventeen years of his leadership skills to Medical Center Hospitals now Sentara as Director of Materials Management. He was a great boss and softball player!!

During retirement he co-founded the senior golf program at Bow Creek Recreation Center, volunteered with Meals On Wheels, and enjoyed boating and fishing with his beloved family. He was active with Lung Cancer Alliance serving as a phone buddy and speaking at educational seminars with Dr. Lee.

Al was a member of Spring Branch Community Church where his memorial will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2008 at 10:30am. A graveside service with Military honors will follow at Princess Anne Cemetery on Great Neck Road. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please submit a donation to the Lung Cancer Alliance at P.O. Box 630972, Baltimore, MD 21263-0972 or to Spring Branch Community Church.

Dad’s Last wish was that instead of crying, hug someone and think of a happy memory.

Dear Twine family,

I am sorry to hear of your loss. My Dad and Mr. Twine were great friends and golfing buddies. I was honored to play a round with them at Bow Creek and Mr. Twine showed true patience and graciousness with my game.

As a fellow Soldier, I thank you for his service to the Nation.

I am proud to have known him and the Chisholm family feels a great loss.

Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.

So sorry for the loss of your dad. Mine died of cancer 10 years ago in May, so I understand the loss, although no one can know how you’re feeling. Joey Mishkofski was kind enough to send me your dad’s obit. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

To the family of Allen Twine: My name is Beth Whitley and I work at Bow Creek Recreation Center. I was saddened to hear of Al’s passing, but I know he is in a better place. Al and his buddies were frequent walkers in our gym every morning which is how I got to know him. I only knew him for about 8 years, but his smile and laughter brought joy to our recreation center. He didn’t know a stranger.

Please know that all of you are in our thoughts and prayers. We will miss him here at the recreation center.

God bless,

The Bow Creek Recreation Center staff
